Project: Bertie County Rebuild Project

Location: Bertie County, NC

Length of Project: August 2011 - Summer 2012

Length of Stay: Minimum stay of one week, arrive Monday evening, depart Saturday afternoon; maximum stay of two weeks.

We are currently scheduling volunteers up to 3 months in advance.

Maximum Team Size: Eight people.

Minimum Age: Volunteers must be at least 14 years or older. Youth ages 14-15 must be accompanied by their parent/legal guardian and youth ages 16-17 must be accompanied by an adult chaperone unless the team is registered as a Youth Group. Youth Groups may serve with Samaritan's Purse and are required to complete a Youth Leader Covenant.

Project Description: Volunteers will assist in Bertie County, NC building 10 new homes.

Background Information: Tornadoes hit Bertie County, North Carolina on Saturday, April 16, 2011, in the deadliest spring storm in the area in two decades.  Many homes were completely destroyed in this small community.  Samaritan's Purse responded by setting up a tornado clean-up response in Windsor, NC. 

Additional Information: Individual volunteers are welcome. Teams should be organized before contacting us in order to provide the number of team members and dates available on the Volunteer Registration form.

Meals and sleeping quarters will be provided. Volunteers need to bring a twin size air mattress or cot, linens/sleeping bag, pillow, towels and personal hygiene items.

Tools will be provided, but volunteers may bring their own tool belts and small hand tools.
